Meetings on Genetic Resources
Laws, Policies, and Institutions

ELI and the International Plant Genetic Resources Institute (IPGRI) convened two meetings on Genetic Resources in September 2003, with funds provided by the Rockefeller Foundation. These meetings were facilitated by the Meridian Institute.

"Global Dialogues on Intellectual Property: Food Security, Plant Genetic Resources, and Intellectual Property" was held in Bellagio, Italy on 9-11 September 2003.  Meeting participants drafted a report with recommendations for specific actions and interventions that would lead to better genetic resources policies and laws at the national level.

"A Working Meeting to Strengthen Capacity for Developing Policies Affecting Genetic Resources: was held in Frascati, Italy on 5-7 September 2003.  This meeting brought together 44 experts from 15 countries around the world.  The discussions, ideas, suggestions, and recommendations which arose from this meeting were used to draft the Bellagio Report (see above).
